The Burmade Way

Culture is not an ingredient we add; it is the soil from which we rise. We are keeping a civilization alive.

Who We Are ?

To safeguard and share a vibrant cultural soul, Burmade was established in 2018 as a dedicated alliance with Myanmar’s master artisans. Deliberately rejecting the fast pace of mass production, we unite to champion the profound 'slow art' of Burmese lacquerware. The resulting creations are authentic masterworks—not mere objects of desire, but intimate, living embodiments of a 700-year-old legacy. Our foundation rests on unwavering, direct partnerships with these masters, a commitment that guarantees fair compensation and essential next-generation training. This vital investment ensures their ancient, intricate skills continue to thrive, allowing the true spirit of this art to flourish for generations to come.

Guardians of a Living Tradition

We are committed to preserving the deep visual language of Burmese lacquerware by maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship. To emphasize this, we rely exclusively on raw, 100% natural thitsi lacquer and traditional organic materials, rejecting any compromise on the process. To create a flawless piece, the painstaking multi-month method must be completed, a period defined by endless, patient cycles of application, curing, and polishing, often involving up to 100 separate, masterful layers. In an age of fast mass production, we consciously choose the slow, ancient way. We do this not only because it results in an object of unparalleled beauty and durability, but because it is the fundamental requirement to honor the art form itself and ensure its soul is passed forward to the next generation of masters.

Our CSR Commitments

The Threat: Ancient structures face a silent enemy. Seeds carried by birds and wind find moisture in the masonry, birthing invasive flora like the Bodhi and Zuaang. Left unchecked, their roots possess the power to split history asunder.

"To simply cut the tree is to wound the temple. The root remains, and the cycle returns."

The Scientific Response: BAS supports the Future Bagan team in rejecting mechanical clearing, which risks structural collapse. Instead, we fund the application of precision Chemical Treatments. By carefully calculating concentration levels, we arrest root growth at the source without corroding the ancient brickwork. We do not just remove the green; we heal the gap it leaves behind.

Your Purchase Makes a Difference

Providing Fair Wages: We ensure our artisans earn a living wage that supports their families and communities.

Preserving Culture: Every piece sold helps keep an ancient tradition alive.

Sustainable Practices: We use natural, renewable materials (bamboo, thitsi sap) and eco-friendly processes.
